How I Stay Motivated, Including with Pro Ana Chat Part 3 of 5 |

Next, let’s turn to the mental types of motivation I use to avoid consuming an excessive (in my opinion) number of calories.
First, I sometimes find it mentally motivating to look at inspirational pictures of people who appear to be at, near, or thinner than my goal weight, which is commonly called fitspo (for fit, athletic people) or thinspo (for thin people, such as models) on the Internet – and I’ll think to yourself – “If I stay motivated, I might look like an athletic person or even a model” (but I’m not advocating becoming motivated enough to lose weight so that you fall into or below the “essential fat” range of body fat; there are serious health consequences of potentially doing this, up to and including death). Fitspo and thinspo are also useful for me to mentally visualize how I might look at my UGW, which motivates me to continue to not abandon my weight loss plans.
Second, I also find it motivating to look at what’s commonly called reverse thinspo, which are images or videos of overweight or obese people (while I think to yourself – “If I consume too many calories, I might become fat”). TV shows such as Supersize versus Superskinny (SSvSS) and My 600-Pound Life feature obese people who are used by some as reverse thinspo. SSvSS also has “superskinny” people who might be viewed by some as thinspo as well, providing both thinspo and reverse thinspo in the same TV show. I’ve found episodes of SSvSS sometimes on streaming websites, such as Netflix or YouTube.
Third, I’ve found that being social, by communicating with others, can mentally distract me from thoughts of consuming more calories.
Fourth, even though I’m highly motivated to lose weight, I try to love my body. It’s ok, in my opinion, to hate my fat, though.
That covers the physical and mental types of motivation that I use during everyday situations. However, there are two special situations that arise that require special ideas for self-motivation: A) if I’m home and feel like bingeing or have already started bingeing, and B) when I’m not at home and I’m around food and/or drinks, like if I’m alone at a supermarket or with others who are eating and/or drinking. These special situations, however, will be covered in a different blog entry.
